The Frugal Family Gift That Keeps On Giving

(Read this post all the way to the bottom to enter to win a massive prize package worth over $1500 that contains gifts for everyone on your list)

Y’all probably know this — but when I’m not photographing adorable newborns in my Richardson studio, I’m doing life as a mom of three littles (soon to be four littles!).  When the holidays come around, it can be challenging to think of thoughtful, cost-effective, gifts for other families–especially ones that get the kids involved!

Give Thanks Box Tutorial by Richardson Baby Photographer_0134That’s what I love about this.  This is a thoughtful, cost-effective family gift for those with young and older kids alike!

Here is all you need to do:

Give Thanks Box Tutorial by Richardson Baby Photographer_0139(These can be just about any size or shape.  Use a craft razor to cut a slit in the top of the lid.)

Give Thanks Box Tutorial by Richardson Baby Photographer_0140You can include as much or as little as you like in your kits.  A couple of foam brushes and some mod podge is the minimum, but you could also include strips of themed paper, foam letter stickers, embellishments, ribbons… just whatever jumps out at you from the aisles of your craft store.

Give Thanks Box Tutorial by Richardson Baby Photographer_0137This is how you explain to your recipient family what you’ve given them.  They (with their kids’ help) can decorate the box any way they want!  Then they can keep the box on a bookshelf in the living room or kitchen, and every couple of weeks (or months), everyone in the family can write a thought, a prayer, or what they’re thankful for right then.  Years later, the family will have these little papers to look back on and treasure!

Give Thanks Box Tutorial by Richardson Baby Photographer_0136My own kids loved helping decorate our box!  They tore the papers into strips and got to pick which strip went where on the box.  I helped them glue the strips down with glue stick, and then they got to spread Mod Podge all over the box.

Give Thanks Box Tutorial by Richardson Baby Photographer_0138We take our box down every few months to add more things we’re thankful for.  After all, giving thanks is good all year round–not just in November.  Enjoy this fun craft with your kids, or gift the supplies to your friends!  Either way, I’d love to hear your comments and questions if you try it!
